Greetings Idler.

This is a new Forum and in order for it to work it needs sensible members.  Why not join up and see where it takes you?  Membership is free.  As a visiting guest, you will be able to see the entire forum, but you need to become a member before you can post.

If this is your first visit to our lounge, then take a little time to read the notices in this section.

The Idler's Lounge Amateur Radio Forum is a place for open minded adults to chat, or simply exchange views.  As such, there are very few (if any) rules.  All we ask is that you respect other Idlers.

We will not censor your posts, you can talk about anything you like in any way you like.  However, we will not allow posts that are deliberately intended to insult or attack other Idlers, or are deliberately intended to cause general disruption or ill feeling toward others.

Trolls often come into forums for the sole purpose of annoying other users, or just to be childishly disruptive or abusive.  Trolls will not be tolerated here.

The Idler's Lounge is a happy place and nasty residents will be evicted by the Bailiffs.

Register your free account now and start posting straight away.

REGISTRATION

Registration is fast, automatic, and totally free.  Once registered, you will be able to join in on the forums and contact other members.  We do not make any charges and will never ask you for your credit card or billing information.

To Register:

If you aren't already a member you will see a "Register" link at the top left of the screen, just under the logo.  It looks like this:

» Welcome Guest
[ Log In :: Register ]

Simply click on the Register link and follow the on-screen instructions.  It's a very simple, one page process.

NOTE:  YOU MUST provide a proper e-mail address as the board will send an automated authentication e-mail which you will need to answer before your membership is completed.  If you do not answer the e-mail within 3 days, your application is deleted automatically.

SECURE REGISTRATION KEY

During the registration process you will be asked to enter a six digit number as a Secure Registration Key.  See the image below for an example.

To get your six digit number, simply count the dots on each of the six dominoes in turn and enter its corresponding number into the input box.  A blank domino equals zero.  In the example above the six digit number is 981906

NOTE:  If you have just registered and your name shows up in RED in the active users list, it's because you tried to register and then logged in BEFORE you answered the automatic e-mail.  If this happens you will need to answer the e-mail and you may have to log out and then log back in again before you can use the forum fully.

MEMBER RATING the Karma system.

The Member's Karma rating is displayed to the left of each post, just under the avatar, and is on a scale of 1 to 5.  It is calculated as a percentage taken from all the other Members who have rated that user.

It allows you to rate other Members, and other Members to rate you, which is why it's called a Karma system.

1)  You cannot rate a Member unless you are a registered Member yourself.  Guests can't use this feature.

2)  You cannot rate yourself.

3)  You can only ever rate another Member ONCE, so choose your rating carefully.  You should decide your ratings on how you think a Member generally performs in the forums.

4)  You will find the Member's rating link in their profile.

AVATARS

Your Avatar is the small picture that is displayed in each of your posts just below your username.  It's also displayed in your profile.

When you first join you are given a blank Avatar but there are a number of ways to personalise your account by adding your own.

1)  The easiest way is to select one from the pre-installed selection.  The problem with this is that at the moment there are only a few available and they are not very good.  We are looking for a good set of avatars which will be better suited to this type of board.

2)  The second way is to upload your own from your computer.  However, there are two drawbacks to this method as well.  Firstly, your picture will be resized to the pre installed Avatar size (currently 64x64 pixels), and secondly, uploaded Avatars are added to the pre installed list so other Members will be able to use them.

NOTE:  If you do upload your own Avatar, it should be square and no larger than 150x150 pixels.  Larger uploaded Avatars will be deleted.

3)  Finally, and by far the best way to add an Avatar, is to link to a personal photograph you have uploaded somewhere else.  In this case the Avatar can be as large as 150 pixels wide by 193 pixels high (portrait shape) or anything smaller.  If your photo looks out of shape, you can adjust it from the Avatar section of your profile.

There is a separate thread on how to link to your Avatar HERE.

NOTE:  If you do want to use a personal photo but are unable to upload it to your own webspace, we can host it for you for free.

There is a separate thread on how to submit your Avatar HERE.

ADDING PICTURES TO YOUR POSTS

There are two ways that you can add pictures to your posts.

1)  You can link to an off-site picture.  To do this, simply place the cursor in the position you want the picture to appear in your post, hit the [Image] button at the top of the text input screen, and enter the URL.  By using this method you can add more than one picture to your post.

2)  You can 'Attach' a single picture.  To do this, simply hit the [Browse] button in the File Attachments area at the bottom of the text input screen, and choose a picture from your own computer.

Pictures must be no wider than 500 pixels and no larger than 300kb in file size.  Pictures that are larger than 300kb will not post as an attachment.  Pictures that are wider than 500 pixels may post but will be deleted.  Members who continually post large pictures will have their picture posting rights removed and may well be banned.

ADDING PICTURES TO YOUR PROFILE

As well as your Avatar which is added to every post you make, you can also add a larger picture of yourself to your profile.  In this case the only method available is to link to a picture you have uploaded elsewhere.
